China reports 990 new COVID cases for September 18 vs. 1,189 the day before

SHANGHAI, Sep 19 (Reuters) – China reported 990 new COVID-19 cases as of September 18, of which 147 were symptomatic and 843 were asymptomatic, the National Health Commission said on Monday.

This compares with 1,189 new cases the day before – 154 symptomatic and 1,035 asymptomatic infections, which China counts separately.

There were no new deaths, as there had been a day earlier, bringing the national death toll to 5,226.

As of September 18, 248,326 symptomatic cases have been confirmed in mainland China.

China’s capital Beijing has not reported local symptomatic cases and asymptomatic cases, as it did the day before, according to local government data.

Shanghai Financial Center reported no local symptoms and three asymptomatic cases, compared with no symptoms and asymptomatic cases a day earlier, according to local government data.

China’s Southern Technology Hub in Shenzhen, which eased antivirus restrictions after strict quarantines on most residents, reported no new locally transmitted COVID-19 infections compared to two days earlier.

The southwestern metropolis of Chengdu reported two new local COVID-19 infections, up from five a day earlier, according to local government data. The city is returning to normal after the recent strict restrictions. read more
