In this special edition of Countdown, we will focus on Afghanistan, one year after the last US troops left the country.
While the Americans seemed to be moving on as the post-war era began in the US, for the Afghans, the story was not over.
For nearly 100,000 of them, their next chapter was part of the US.
The US State Department says it is processing about three-quarters of this group for a special immigration visa, a program designed to help Afghans who worked for the US government and potentially even risked their lives helping US troops.
The department also said that more than 10,000 people have received permission to relocate but are still waiting to be evacuated.
We spoke to an Afghan who describes his year-long journey to escape the country and bring his family and community to America.
We also had a conversation with Samira Syed-Rahman of the International Rescue Committee.
