Crimes of the USSR: Poland will demand that Russia return the paintings (14.09.22 18:12) « Society

Poland will submit seven more applications to Russia for the restitution of works of art exported to the USSR during World War II.

This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister, head of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Petr Glinsky, Censor.NO reports with reference to Espresso.

“To this day, many Polish museums have empty frames – a symbol of Polish losses in the war. We are launching a national action “Empty Frames”, the purpose of which is to recall the works of art and monuments looted during the Second World War. According to him, the world war was waged by both Germans and Russian occupiers.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Poland will never stop searching for and returning cultural property stolen during the war. Under international law, Russia is obliged to return Polish cultural property stolen during the war.

“The cases of the theft of cultural property do not become obsolete, not only in the ethical and moral dimension, but also in the field of international law,” Glinsky noted.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the stolen works of art were found in the funds of the Museum of Fine Arts. A. Pushkin in Moscow: one painting from the pre-war collection of Wilyanov, one from the Poznań collection, three from the pre-war collection of the Czartoryski estate in Holuchow, one painting from Lodz and one from Wroclaw.

In addition, according to Glinsky, special boards will be placed in 12 cities of Poland, which will remind of the Polish wars in the field of culture.
