Ghanaian designer Ruby Bua on bringing African prints to American cities

Jewelery began as a hobby for Ghanaian designer Ruby Bua, but her stylish mix of African prints and beading has attracted a huge following and encouraged her to turn her passion into a full-time career. Having expanded her business, Kua Designs, into womenswear and accessories, she recently embarked on a 5-city American tour to introduce her Ghanaian style to an eager American public. For this US tour, Buah is presenting a limited collection that includes coveted clutches, beaded jewelry, apparel, bracelets and more. Through this pop-up, she hopes to continue supporting her humanitarian vertical Kua Cares, an initiative that educates and employs women with visual impairments in the jewelry industry. The presence of African printed fabrics and motifs on these pieces is more than just a sartorial charm, it speaks to Bois’ heritage as a Ghanaian. It is also an invitation to her culture as she travels between two continents. In terms of customers, the brand has been a favorite of popular American actress Erica Alexander and rapper Cardi B.
