MEXICO CITY, Sep 7 (Reuters) – Hurricane Kei eased slightly by noon on Wednesday, authorities said, as the Category 2 storm approached Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, causing flight cancellations across the region.
As of 17:00 ET (21:00 GMT), the storm was over the Pacific Ocean about 205 miles (335 km) west-southwest of the tip of the peninsula, where the beach resort of Cabo San Lucas is located. National Hurricane Center (NHC).
While further weakening is forecast, Kay is expected to remain a strong hurricane as it passes near the west-central coast of Baja California, the NHC said.

Mexican Airlines VivaAerobus, Volaris (VOLARA.MX) and Aeromexico (AEROMEX.MX) allegations say that Kay instigated the cancellation of domestic flights to the popular tourist region of Los Cabos.
Cay reached intensity category 2 earlier in the day with sustained winds of 100 miles per hour (155 km per hour).
The NHC said a tropical storm warning has been activated for the Los Cabos area, while hurricane watch and hurricane warnings have been in effect for other parts of Baja California Sur, with heavy rain expected on Saturday.
Over the weekend, Kay killed three people in the state of Guerrero and in the port of Acapulco on the Pacific coast, and damaged houses. read more
