Latvian power grid operator AS Augstsprieguma tikls (AST) has signed a three-year agreement to use Energy Exemplar software for PLEXOS simulation.
RIGA, LATVIA, September 6, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — Latvian transmission system operator AS Augstsprieguma tikls (AST – High Voltage Network) today announced a three-year agreement with Energy Sample use PLEXOS simulation software to manage changing energy priorities.
AST is an independent transmission system operator in the Republic of Latvia, engaged in the provision of electricity transmission network services and ensuring balancing and stability in the transmission network.
By providing a virtual market simulation, PLEXOS software will support AST in making decisions about switching to new sources of imported and domestic energy as the country seeks to improve its energy security, assume social responsibility and manage the safe operation of the Latvian energy system.
PLEXOS will help AST coordinate the strategy with neighboring countries. With Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania also using PLEXOS, the Baltic countries will be able to share knowledge and collaborate on a level previously thought unattainable. This goal is in line with the overall plan of the Baltic States to synchronize with the rest of the continental European energy market by 2025.
“This partnership will greatly benefit AST, Latvia and its people,” said Michael Schneider, Senior Vice President and Head of EMEA Energy Exemplar Region. data and coordinate efforts to invest in clean energy in the area.”
AST will use PLEXOS to model various time series of hydroelectric power plants in the Baltic States that could affect supply and prices in the region. This information will enable appropriate investment in infrastructure and manage the timing of the transition to alternative energy sources to keep costs low and stable for the end user. The simulation tool is critical for developing new interconnectors and evaluating the rapid increase in high capacity RES production in the Baltic States.
“As geopolitical changes take place, the future is uncertain, but by modeling possible scenarios, AST will be well positioned to make the right decisions for citizens and investors, building a strategy based on the best available forecasts of future challenges and opportunities,” Schneider added.
Arnis Daugulis, board member responsible for the development of the Latvian energy system, said:
“We are very excited to get started with this technology, knowing that it can improve our understanding of the new energy landscape, as well as plan for the future and respond to challenges as they arise. This tool will help us make data-driven decisions in collaboration with our European colleagues and partners.”
AST, founded in 1939, is owned by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Latvia. TSO controls more than 5,500 km of connected transmission lines, 140 substations and has a revenue of 126 million euros.
PLEXOS will support AST’s current long-term strategic goals:
● Strengthening Latvia’s energy security by synchronizing Latvia’s electricity transmission network with that of continental Europe; Sustainable development of the Latvian electricity transmission system;
● Ensuring the safe operation of the Latvian energy system and quality power supply to consumers;
● Ensuring sustainable and efficient management of national strategically important energy supply assets;
● Certification of the Company as socially responsible.
Energy Exemplar previously signed agreements with Estonia in February 2020 and Lithuania in January 2022 to use PLEXOS. The deal with AST represents the use of PLEXOS in the Baltic States.
