8:42 am: British military intelligence reports that Russian forces have established a defensive line between the Oskol River and the city of Svatovo.
“Russia probably considers it important to maintain control over this zone, as it passes through one of the few main supply routes that Russia still controls from the Belgorod region of Russia,” the Ministry of Defense said on Twitter.
Russia will likely attempt to put up a stubborn defense in the area, but it is not clear if the Russian forward forces have sufficient reserves or sufficient morale to counter another concerted Ukrainian attack.
