Ukraine urges allies to speed up arms deliveries after Russian retreat

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged the West to speed up the supply of weapons as Ukrainians seek to consolidate control over the territories around Kharkiv, taken from Russia, taken away from Russia. Ukraine said Monday that its forces have recaptured more territory in the past 24 hours and this month have recaptured territory seven times the size of Kyiv as Russia has responded with strikes on some of the reclaimed territories.

Territorial shifts have become one of the RussiaThese were the biggest setbacks since its forces were driven back from Kyiv in the first days of almost seven months of fighting, but Moscow has signaled that it is no closer to a negotiated peace.

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky urged the West to speed up the supply of weapons systems as Ukrainian forces try to consolidate control over a large part of the northeastern territory taken from Russia.

Since Moscow abandoned its main bastion in northeastern Ukraine on Saturday in its worst defeat since the early days of the war, Ukrainian forces have recaptured dozens of cities in a stunning change in the pace of fighting.

A senior US military official said Russia has largely ceded territory near Kharkov in the northeast and has pulled most of its troops overseas. Washington and its allies have provided Ukraine with billions of dollars worth of weapons that Kyiv says has helped limit Russia’s gains. In a video message late Monday on Monday, Zelenskiy said Ukraine and the West must “strengthen cooperation to defeat Russian terror.”
